Are you interested in working on independent films?

t4_6896312137493321885

Are you an actor or actress, or maybe have a technical interest in film making?

Local production outfit Shortorme Productions are looking for people to get involved in their forthcoming films for 2015. We’re looking for actors and actresses, VFX technicians, lighting engineers, model makers – anyone who feels they have something they can offer, even if they’ve never considered applying it to film before!

Our productions are no-to-low (very low!) budget but we promote a collaborative approach where everyone working on the film has a major part to play in realising the final piece. We’ve worked in genres from drama to comedy, science fiction to horror, have been screened at a number of festivals both locally and around the country and our first short, Refuse and Recycling won a “best in comedy” award in 2014.

Check out our archives and trailers for our forthcoming short feature, All Good Things at http://youtube.com/shortormeproductions and, if you want to chat about how you can get involved, please get in touch with us at shortormeproductions@gmail.com, or via twitter @shortorme – don’t forget to follow us too (website and Facebook page coming soon)!

CURRENTLY CASTING: We’re particularly looking for a female for a short horror film we’re making next January. We hope to be auditioning in December so please get in touch. Head shots and show reels are not essential but will help us in the casting process. The role will involve several workshopped scenes with the main actor and improvisation will be encouraged.

VFX ARTISTS WANTED: Do you know your way around Adobe After effects? Can you work with CG elements to enhance shots? Get in touch! We’re hoping to introduce more digital elements into our films, including working with CG and green screen effects. Even if you’ve never applied your skills to film before but are a dab hand at creating digital art or 3D rendered images, we’d love to talk to you!

Housing advice service

aa LATEST UPLOAD

The Specialist Advice Team runs housing workshops every Thursday throughout the year in Witham House (next to the Sports Centre) room WH002 every Thursday from 12pm-1pm.

We’ll explain what would happen if you didn’t pay your rent and your mum was your guarantor. If your landlord doesn’t listen when you need repairs we’ll clarify what your landlord is actually responsible for. Plus if you’re worried about getting your deposit back when you move out we’ll help you understand where your deposit is and how it’s protected.

We want to help you understand your rights and responsibilities when it comes to renting. There might even be a cuppa and a biscuit thrown in too!

The workshops are open to everyone. It’s only an hour out of your day to get your facts right about renting. This is important information for now and very useful for your future too.

The Specialist Advice Team is a confidential, independent and impartial service for students.

Do you dread public speaking?

microphone

A new study into fear of public speaking has been launched by students in the College of Social Science.

The team are recruiting participants into the study which seeks to use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). ACT encourages acceptance and living according to ones values in order to develop skills to help with difficulties such as public speaking.

Participants will be guided through a self-help workbook, a short daily questionnaire and a weekly questionnaire. You will also need to meet with the researcher three times during the study to complete a computerised task. The study is expected to last six weeks and participants will be compensated for their time (£28 in total).

For more information, please contact Joe Priestley, Trainee Clinical Psychologist, College of Social Science via 13451707@students.lincoln.ac.uk

Participants needed for weight management study

Healthy Campus

Are you fed up of dieting? Would you like to approach your weight management in a different way? Do you want to develop healthy eating? Want to take part in our research?

We are inviting students and staff to participate in a research study to explore how well a self-help strategy called ACT can aid weight management. The format will be via guided self-help over the course of five weeks and there will be a follow up in three months’ time.

If you are interested in participating you need to be: aged 18 or over, have a BMI over 25, want to manage your weight better, and be willing to commit to the study timeframe.

You will also be asked to meet with the researcher at the University four times in total where you will be asked to complete a computer based task, some questionnaires and your Body Mass Index (BMI) will be assessed.

The remainder of the study can be done from the comfort of your own home (e.g. complete questionnaires and receive weekly telephone support from the researcher). Afterwards, we will interview you to find out your views about whether it was helpful or not.

Are you interested in taking part? To see if you are eligible and get more detailed information please contact Mary Jinks at 13451706@students.lincoln.ac.uk

This research is being conducted at the University of Lincoln and has been granted approval by the University of Lincoln Ethics Committee.

Siren FM wins industry award

untitled

The Radio Academy has announced that Siren FM has been awarded “East Midlands Station of the Year 2014”.

The judges were fulsome in their praise; “An ambitious and bold station with a broad scope of content that has appeal beyond its student community. From in-depth debates and investigative interviews, to an accessible music and entertainment proposition, Siren works hard to deliver a well-rounded output.”

Andrew David, Managing Editor, said, “This is the equivalent of winning an Oscar or Bafta. This rewards everyone at Siren FM for all the hundreds of volunteer hours the team put in to make sure that we provide the very best programming we can. I am so proud of everything the team have and continue to achieve.”
