IBCC Remembrance Sunday Service | 12th Nov

This year on Remembrance Sunday, 12th November, the International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln is holding a Service of Remembrance at 10.45am – 11.10am and will be open all day for anyone wanting to visit.

The International Bomber Command Centre (IBCC) is a world-class facility which serves as a point for recognition, remembrance and reconciliation for Bomber Command. Working with experts at the University of Lincoln, it provides the most comprehensive record of the Command in the world, The IBCC aims to ensure that generations to come can learn of their vital role in protecting the freedom we enjoy today.

IBCC is requesting donations to help to support all aspects of the International Bomber Command Centre and particularly to help complete the build of the centre and ensure the legacy of Bomber Command is preserved. As such, IBCC is asking people to bring in their old pound coins so they can try to create a runway of gold from the Command Centre to the Spire.

To create the Runway of Gold IBCC hopes to persuade people to hunt down the back of their sofas, cupboards, etc to unearth their old pound coins.  Whereas the general public can no longer use these, charities have been given an extra six months.  There are estimated to be £48 million still in circulation.

How much is your degree really worth? | 2nd Nov

Students are invited to engage with a live stream of the inaugural Future Talk being held at the University of Lincoln on Thursday 2nd November. The topic for discussion is the real value of a degree, and students are encouraged to ask questions and join in the discussion via the Siemen’s facebook page.

On Thursday 2nd November, Siemens is having a conversation about the real value of degrees.  A conversation that is coming live from the University of Lincoln, streamed on Facebook.  A conversation involving our CEO, an audience of university vice chancellors and students, and you.

Siemens invests heavily in skills and training and has a strong commitment to working with universities and recruiting top graduate/intern talent. But how well do you think a degree really prepares you for the world of work?  Can university degrees keep up with the pace of technological change? If employers want bright new ideas, why learn from those with experience?

At this inaugural Future Talk all these points and more will be up for discussion.  This interactive conversation will be live streamed on SiemensUKNews Facebook page, so make sure you save the date – Thursday 2nd November at 2pm.

Future Talks is a series of panel discussions, bringing together people from Siemens and relevant industries across the UK, to share, converse and debate the topics that everyone is talking about.

Don’t forget – join the conversation on Thursday 2nd November at 2:30pm on SiemensUKNews Facebook.

Survey on Public Engagement with Research at Lincoln

The University of Lincoln recently won national grant funding from RCUK to enhance the support it provides for public engagement in research.

Engaging with members of the public is a vital part of a university’s activity as it makes research more relevant to more people, increases the ways in which society can benefit from research and boosts public support for universities. See: http://www.rcuk.ac.uk/pe/strategic-support-to-expedite-embedding-per/

The University of Lincoln project is called PEARL (Public Engagement for All with Research at Lincoln). One of the first steps of PEARL is to find out what staff and students think about the University’s current provision for public engagement with research.

To do this, we would like to invite all University staff and students to complete a quick survey. This survey is hosted on SurveyMonkey and should take only about eight minutes of your time. Please go to https://www.research.net/r/56HXH9L to complete the survey before it closes on Tuesday 31st October. Your responses will be completely anonymous and very much appreciated.

Professor Carenza Lewis (College of Arts and Principal Investigator, PEARL)
Professor Timothy Hodgson (College of Social Science and Co-Investigator, PEARL)
