University of Lincoln Santa Fun Run Goes Global!

Lincoln Santa Fun RunThe University of Lincoln Santa Fun Run and Walk has been a great event in Lincoln for a number of years, but this year it is going global, with six additional runs being held across the world.

The Royal Air Forces Association, one of several charities being supported by the run, has organised for staff and personnel at RAF and MOD stations in the Falklands, Cyprus, Afghanistan and the UK to hold their own events. These sister fun runs will be held in the week leading up to the event in Lincoln on 17th December.

The RAF Association is a membership organisation and registered charity that provides welfare support to the RAF family. With many people in Lincoln having close ties with the RAF and serving personnel, the fact that the Santa Fun Run can support such a charity makes it very worthwhile.

The University of Lincoln Santa Fun Run and Walk is organised by the Rotary Club of Lincoln Colonia. The University is the headline sponsors once again this year, and there are now less than 100 places left to take part – if you want to get involved make sure you sign up today!

Please note, the closing date for applications for UROS 2018 is 31st January 2018.

UROS drop-in sessions will be held downstairs in the library between 2pm and 4pm, Monday to Friday throughout November. Here there will be the opportunity for both staff and students to gain further information and speak with the Student Engagement Team informally.

Update on PEARL Survey

Thank you to those who completed the PEARL – Public Engagement with Research survey over the last couple of weeks.

Public Engagement with Research for All at Lincoln (PEARL), is a new RCUK-funded project which will be investigating how the University can improve its public engagement with research. Providing platforms for the public to engage with the University’s research activities is instrumental in ensuring society is aware of and benefitting from research, ultimately boosting public support for universities.

The results of this initial survey provide the data required to grasp an understanding of how staff and students of the University feel about, view and are aware of public engagement.

A second, more in-depth survey about Public Engagement with Research (PER) at Lincoln will be created using the results of the first. We can then look to provide new resources and initiatives for PER at Lincoln, such as training and platforms for communication.

Thank you to those who responded affirming that they would be happy to complete a second survey – we will be in touch very soon regarding this.

If you would like any more details about the project, please email pearl@lincoln.ac.uk

With many thanks for your help,

Professor Carenza Lewis (College of Arts and Principal Investigator, PEARL)
Professor Timothy Hodgson (College of Social Science and Co-Investigator, PEARL)
Sarah Harris (PEARL Research Assistant)

Lincoln West End Lights | 8th Dec

Students and staff living in the West End area of Lincoln are encouraged to take part in this year’s Lights day on 8th December.

West End Lights

Lincoln West End Lights is Lincoln’s home-grown night of light.

It started in Lincoln’s West End in 2010 when 9 houses took part. The city was covered in snow and the roads were closed because of thick ice. In the cold winter’s chill a few warm lights shone out as house windows were turned into cinema screens, light sculptures bloomed in front gardens and candles in lanterns flickered much to the surprise of unsuspecting passersby.

It is the festival that brings a warm glow to our West End streets. Created and powered by ordinary local people who light up the area…

Windows are turned into cinema screens
Light sculptures bloom in gardens
Lanterns hang from trees
and last year, bicycles, dog walkers and even dancers were lit up!

This is your invitation to join in. You don’t have to be film director or an award winning artists. What you need is a willingness to give it a go, have some fun and help make your community shine.

And then wrap up warm, meet on the street and enjoy the imagination and community spirit to be found in this part of Lincoln.

Find out more at www.lincoln-west-end-lights.com.
