Support services over the Christmas break

Many students may decide to stay in Lincoln over the break, because they may not be able to get home, have commitments which require them to stay in the city, or simply because this is their home.

Changes to Academic College Structures for 2023/24

The University will be making changes to the organisation of our academic colleges for the 2023/24 academic year.

We will move from the current four-college structure to a two-college structure in August 2023.

The University’s academic colleges (sometimes called faculties in other universities) are groupings of academic schools (departments), led by a Pro Vice Chancellor who is a member of the University’s Senior Leadership Team.

Our existing academic schools will all be retained in full and realigned into two larger colleges: a College of Health and Science; and a College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, as shown in the table below:

College of Health and Science  College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities
– School of Health and Social Care
-School of Life and Environmental Sciences
-Lincoln Medical School
-School of Pharmacy
-School of Psychology
-School of Sport and Exercise Science
-School of Chemistry
-School of Computer Science
-School of Engineering
-School of Mathematics and Physics
-Lincoln Institute for Agri-food Technology
-National Centre for Food Manufacturing
-Foundation Studies Centre
-Lincoln International Business School
-School of Education
-Lincoln Law School
-School of Social and Political Sciences
-Lincoln School of Creative Arts
-Lincoln School of Design
-Lincoln School of Film, Media and Journalism
-Lincoln School of Humanities and Heritage
-Lincoln School of Architecture and the Built Environment

There are no changes to programmes, programme titles, teaching or the support services provided to students related to this change in organisational structure.  The name, staffing and physical location of academic schools will not change.

Professional support services for students; our Libraries, Student Support, Student Wellbeing and the International College are unaffected by these changes in academic college structures.

The planned changes, which will be finalised in June, are intended to enable greater cross-disciplinary collaboration between different subject areas in teaching, research and knowledge exchange (such as collaborations with industry partners). It is hoped a broader cross-disciplinary focus will, in time, enable us to develop a broader range of opportunities for students, graduates and academic staff.

Your Students’ Union is reviewing the effect these changes will have on their representation model. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to your Personal Tutor, the University’s Student Support Centre (email: studentsupport@lincoln.ac.uk ) or the Students’ Union Advice Centre (email: advice@lincolnsu.com).

Coronavirus

Coronavirus Vaccination Survey

There’s still opportunity for staff and students to complete a short, anonymous survey to help inform our understanding of Coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccination uptake across our University community.

The survey is voluntary and open to all students and staff at the University, whether or not you have had the vaccine yet.

It is anonymous and responses will not be linked back to individuals. Aggregated data from the survey will help to inform the University’s planning to support our community during the new academic year. Institutional level data may also be reported to the Office for Students and other public bodies such as the Department for Education, Department of Health and Social Care, and Public Health England.

The survey closes on Sunday 17th October 2021.

To complete the survey and view the Privacy Notice, please visit: www.lincoln.ac.uk/coronavirus/vaccinesurvey

Formal Examinations

The formal examinations will start on Monday 7th January 2019 and your individual examination timetable is available now on your Blackboard.

In some instances the same exam will be scheduled in several venues due to room capacity so please ensure that you attend the venue as scheduled on your timetable.

You must view your timetable regularly to keep up to date as it may be subject to change.

You should familiarise yourself with the Code of Conduct in Examinations regulations, attached in the top right corner of your timetable, before you attend your first exam.

If you are taking an exam where you are permitted to take in exam equipment, for example a calculator or clean translation dictionary with no annotated notes inside, please ensure that you bring the correct one to your examination. If you are unsure what this is please check with your school office.

Mobiles phones are not permitted into exam venues so please ensure that if you require a calculator you bring one to your examination as they will not be provided.

Please dress appropriately for your personal comfort. It can be cool in some of the exam venues and you will not be permitted to keep coats and hats on in the examination room.

Please remember to bring your student card to your examination.

Due to building work taking place from the 2nd January, the level crossing on Brayford Wharf East will be closed for the exam period in January 2019. This means that you cannot come down the main drive into the University or cross the railway line. Please check your timetable, and your exam venue against the map below for an alternative route. Please give yourself plenty of time to reach the exam venue, as it will take longer than normal to reach your venue.

Please refer to a map of alternative routes: https://staffnews.blogs.lincoln.ac.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Level-Crossing-Diversion.pdf

The Library Wellbeing Team

The Library is offering a new service, allowing students to book one-to-one appointments with a member of the Library Wellbeing team.

The Library Wellbeing team can provide assistance with:

  • Using the Library
  • Finding your way around the Library
  • Using library services and equipment
  • Searching the Library
  • Finding items on the shelves
  • Searching the Library website

All students need to do is go to http://calendars.library.lincoln.ac.uk/appointments/ to view what appointments are available throughout the week.

There is also a new Library Wellbeing Guide covering all aspects of what specialist Library support there is for students from borrowing books to equipment and software.

Formal Examinations January 2018

The first formal examination period for this academic year will start on Monday 8th January 2018.

If you have formal examinations, your individual examination timetable is now available on Blackboard. Please remember that your timetable is subject to change, and you should therefore check it regularly.

In some instances, the same exam will be scheduled in several venues due to room capacity. Please ensure that you attend the venue as scheduled on your own timetable.

Please familiarise yourself with the Conduct of Candidates in Examinations Regulations (opens pdf) before your first exam, as there have been updates for this academic year.

If you are taking an exam where you are permitted to take in certain equipment, such as a calculator or clean translation dictionary (with no annotation or notes inside), please ensure that you bring the correct item to your examination as these will be checked as you take your seat. Mobiles phones are not permitted into exam venues under any circumstances, and so you cannot use your phone as your calculator. If you are unsure of what is permitted, please check with your School Office prior to your exam.

As the weather can be very cold at this time of year, and it may be cool in some of the exam venues, please dress appropriately for your personal comfort. Coats and hats will not be permitted in the examination room.

Finally, please remember to bring your Student ID Card to every examination as this will be checked before you enter the exam room.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding examinations please contact your School Office or email exams@lincoln.ac.uk.

Financial Assistance for Students

The Student Funding Team, part of the Advice Service, offers a whole range of advice and support to all enrolled students.

The University of Lincoln Financial Assistance Fund is intended to support home students who are experiencing financial hardship. This fund opens for application from 1st November 2017. For more information and to make an online application please visit: http://adviceguidancefunding.blogs.lincoln.ac.uk/hardship-funds/

Also, in recognition of the rural nature of Lincolnshire, a new Travel Grant has been created to help with a contribution towards the travel costs of eligible undergraduate students who attend University from their permanent home address. More information can be found at: http://adviceguidancefunding.blogs.lincoln.ac.uk/scholarships-bursaries/.

Paper applications for both funds are available in the Student Support Centre.

If you would like to speak to someone in person about financial matters, anyone can make an appointment with a specialist by emailing adviceappointments@lincoln.ac.uk. There are also daily drop-in sessions in the Student Support Centre from 12noon to 2pm, Monday to Friday.

Campus Way Closed This Weekend

Students are advised that Campus Way will be closed this weekend (28th and 29th October) to allow Bowmer and Kirkland to remove their site office compound and storage containers from the site adjacent to Cygnet Wharf.

There will be no vehicular access along Campus Way from the roundabout at 1 Campus Way, through the Student Village towards Bridge House and the flyover, MHT and Minerva buildings.

Campus Map Campus Way Closed

This is so that the contractor can deliver a crane to move the containers and to allow access for trucks to take the containers away.

Pedestrian access will not be affected. Please follow the signs to ensure your safety as you make your way around the site.

Work will begin at 8.30am and be complete by 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Restrictions will be removed before Monday morning.
