Midlands on Film

The Media Archive for Central England (MACE) and School of Media have launched a DVD series charting the history of region.

The Midlands on Film series features archive footage of some of cities and counties across the Midlands.

Each DVD costs just £5 (there is a University of Lincoln staff and student discount) and the series includes:

To get your discount either visit the stand in the Atrium (Minerva Building) on 20 November from midday to 1.30pm or visit MACE directly in the MHT Building.

MACE is a registered charity and therefore all proceeds from the sale of these items will be used to fulfil charitable aims of preserving and making accessible the region’s screen heritage.

 

Lincoln students win BIID design challenge

Six University of Lincoln students from Interior Architecture and Design for Exhibition and Museums courses won the prestigious student design challenge organised by the British Institute of Interior Designers.

The competition was judged by Daniel hopwood, BIID president, Ben Spriggs, Deputy Editor of Elle Decoration, and Katie treggiden, journalist for Elle Decoration, the Guardian and the Telegraph.

The one-day CAD-free design competition is open exclusively to 3rd year Interior Design and Interior Architecture degree students from across the UK.

 

Law Clinic 2015/2016 – Free expert advice

If you have a legal problem, and don’t want the cost of a solicitor, drop them an email to see if they can help.

There is also a drop-in advice clinic every Wednesday from 1pm-4pm at the Student Advice Centre.

MA Taster Day: School of History and Heritage – 8 December

You are invited to our postgraduate taster day for the MA in Medieval History, MA in Historical Studies, MA in Nineteenth-Century Studies, and Graduate Diploma in Conservation Studies.

Learn about our programmes, meet faculty, see some of the source materials with which you could work, and enjoy some tea/coffee and cake!

Participants will examine rare books and manuscripts in the Medieval and Wren Libraries at the Cathedral and learn about archival materials at the Media Archive of Central England (MACE) and the Bomber Command Centre.

The event takes place on 8 December from 3.30pm to 5pm in the Wren Library, Lincoln Cathedral.

Meditation in the Library on Thursday

Meditation in the Library UL110 on Thursdays at 3pm.

Take a short break and try meditation!  It’s a brief session where you can receive a bit of guidance on how to find stillness in everyday life.  It’s a good way to re-focus and learn to be calm.

Drama student Harriet Mayne in the BBC One’s On Stage tonight!

Watch out for drama student Harriet Mayne in the BBC One programme On Stage on Monday, November, 9, at 7.30pm.

This TV show features how a large-scale production of In Fog and Falling Snow, which is about the growth of the railways in the 1840s, was made during the summer in York at the Railway Museum and Signal Box Theatre.

Led by George Costigan, who played the railway investor George Hudson, it featured200 community actors including Harriet.

She says: “It was a fantastic production to be part of. Also working with George Costigan was a bonus too.”

Blackwell’s Bookshop will close for Semester 1 on Friday

The Blackwell’s Bookshop, located on the ground floor of the Library, will close for Semester 1 on Friday November 6th.

Students can continue to place orders by email, telephone or through the website www.blackwell.co.uk , with orders over £10 posted out free of charge.

Blackwell’s will continue to support Schools and Departments, wherever required, and can provide temporary bookstalls to coincide with lectures or events on request.

The Bookshop will re-open in the Library at the beginning of Semester 2.
