A broadcaster who has brought his love of science and adventure to life for millions of viewers will lift the lid on the challenges of front line television in the University of Lincoln’s last Great Minds guest lecture of the academic year.
Dallas Campbell, whose work includes the upcoming BBC2 aviation series City In The Sky as well as Britain Beneath Your Feet, Stargazing Live, The Treasure Hunters, Bang Goes the Theory, Voyager, The Drake Equation, Egypt’s Lost Cities and ground-breaking documentary Supersized Earth, will give an insider’s view on the challenges of bringing technical and scientific stories to a broad audience.
He will also examine why it is so important that factual programmes stay at the forefront of prime TV viewing, and will take questions from the audience after the talk.
The talk, Dallas in Wonderland – Adventures in science television, will take place at the Engine Shed at the University of Lincoln’s main Brayford Pool Campus on 18 April 2016 at 6pm, with registration from 5.30pm. Admission is free but booking is essential. Priority will be given to groups from UK schools and colleges.
“From Mexican sewer diving to Russian rocket launches, I’ve had more than my fair share of television adventures,” said Dallas.
“In this talk I will share hair-raising tales from the coal-face of science television, talking about the challenges of presenting science to wide audiences, and the importance of bringing big ideas to the small screen. I’m delighted to be part of the University of Lincoln’s Great Minds lecture series.”
Dallas joins the ranks of other notable names to have already spoken at this year’s Great Minds guest lecture series at the University of Lincoln, including naturalist and broadcaster Chris Packham, Speaker of the House, the Right Honourable John Bercow MP, and crime writer Ann Cleeves. The next Great Minds lecture season begins in September 2016. Further details will be revealed ahead of the 2016/17 academic year.
