Hardship funds and benefits for continuing University of Lincoln UK/Home undergraduate students over the summer vacation period
Full-time continuing UK/home University of Lincoln students, who cannot work over the summer vacation period and find themselves in financial hardship, may apply for an award from the University’s Summer Hardship Funds. Eligibility criteria apply. More information can be found in the attached document and via the Student Funding Team. Application forms will be available from the Student Support Centre from Monday 9th June 2014.
Most UK/Home students cannot receive welfare benefits during the summer vacation period. There are, however, some exceptions.
Students who are in receipt of the Special Support Grant, due to having an underlying entitlement to benefits, may be able to claim welfare benefits for some of the holiday period. If you are a Nursing student who is a lone parent and are responsible for a child under the age of 5, you may be eligible for Income Support.
If you have caring responsibilities for an adult and also have a child, there may be limited support available through the welfare benefit system; this is quite complicated and the Advice Service can provide more information.
The type of benefit and period of claim will depend upon the student’s individual circumstances and they should contact their local JobCentrePlus or the Specialist Advice Team for more information.
If you have questions about any of the above you can seek guidance from the Advice Service. Their drop-in times in the Student Support Centre are shown below:
- Specialist Advice Team (welfare benefits advice): Monday, Wednesday & Thursday – 12noon to 1.30pm.
- Student Funding Team (student funding & hardship): Monday to Friday – 10am to 3pm.
