Staff and students from the University of Lincoln’s School of Media have returned from the second phase of the pioneering Media Culture 2020 scheme in Latvia.
10 undergraduate students took part in the two-week placement at Liepaja University in Latvia, where they worked alongside their European peers as part of the new EU-funded programme.
The Media Culture 2020 scheme is an Erasmus Intensive Programme, which aims to bring together students and teaching staff from Higher Education institutions across Europe. Designed to break down barriers so that students from different countries and areas of study can benefit from open learning environments, the project aims to demonstrate the potential of united and interactive 21st century media culture in Europe.
In Latvia, the students were joined by Lecturer Martyn Thayne and Senior Lecturer Graham Cooper, as they worked with students from Finland, Spain and the Netherlands. Activities included international group presentations, interactive workshops and a number of cultural evenings.
Speaking about the experience, third year Media Production student, Rachel Hagreen, said: “As well as meeting many new, interesting and talented students from across Europe, I have also learnt a lot about myself and how I work. This experience has definitely given me a huge amount of confidence.”
The trip to Latvia follows the first phase of the Media Culture 2020 project, which took place in Finland earlier this year.
