#NoMore Campaign

There are a number of services in Lincolnshire that can give you the help and support needed if you or someone you know is a victim of sexual violence and abuse.

#NoMore campaign

No More logo

The University of Lincoln is supporting the #NoMore campaign, raising awareness of Sexual Violence & Abuse (SVA) services and promoting a culture change within Lincolnshire.

The awareness campaign aims to:

  • Create a Culture change in Lincolnshire relating to sexual violence and abuse
  • Promote Support Services in Lincolnshire
  • Empowering Victims to make a decision about whether to report to the Police (or Crimestoppers)

The campaign has come about from the SVA Partnership, which includes police, education, PCC, SVA support services and Lincolnshire County Council, and aims to make Lincolnshire a safe place to live, work and socialise without the risk of SVA.

In order to do this, a culture change is needed and the #NoMore awareness campaign is the start of that.

The University is proud to support this campaign.

Agri-tech goes intergalactic at Riseholme

The Riseholme Campus of the University of Lincoln has joined the UK’s national network of monitoring stations measuring intergalactic cosmic rays to provide farmers and agri-tech researchers with near real-time data on soil moisture levels.

Grasslands at the campus have been fitted with cutting-edge meteorological and soil monitoring instruments as part of the national Cosmic-ray Soil Moisture Observing System (COSMOS-UK) project.

Led by the UK’s Centre for Ecology & Hydrology and funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), the COSMOS-UK project launched in 2013 and now includes 40 sites stretching from Glensaugh in Scotland to The Lizard in Cornwall, with further installations planned.

Riseholme is the first location in Lincolnshire to be added to the national network of monitoring stations. Once calibrated, the technology will help to inform research by scientists from the University’s Lincoln Institute for Agri-food Technology (LIAT), as well researchers at other universities and research institutions.

Cat owners invited to take part in student survey

A student from the School of Life Sciences is inviting cat owners to take part in a short research survey, designed to explore how people interpret different cat behaviours.

The research is being conducted by Shannon Etherington, who is in her third year of the Animal Behaviour and Welfare programme. She hopes the study could shed light on how demographic factors can influence cat behaviour interpretation.

The survey consists of 19 questions in total and should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. The survey includes four videos of cat behaviour which can be viewed via YouTube, and the survey should therefore be completed on desktop computers or laptops. All participants will remain anonymous.

To complete the survey please visit: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/XL8HZKD

If you have any queries about the study, please contact Shannon via email: animalbehaviourstudy@gmail.com

Medical Health Doctor Nurse GP

Have you had your vaccinations?

First year students who have not yet been vaccinated against meningitis and septicaemia are advised to book an appointment to be immunised this month.

Meningococcal disease can develop suddenly, usually as meningitis or septicaemia. Early symptoms include severe diarrhoea and vomiting, headaches, muscle pain, fever, and cold hands and feet. It can kill, or leave people with life-changing disabilities or health problems, like hearing loss, brain damage or the loss of a limb.

New students are at a high risk of meningococcal disease because they tend to mix with large numbers of new people. If you did not have the vaccination before you started University or when you enrolled in September, you should do so this month.

Should you fall unwell with the symptoms above, please seek medical advice immediately.

Vaccinations are available from the University Health Centre on campus. Please make an appointment to see the Nurse Practitioner to help guard against this disease.
