Jalila Mirza is a Student Paramedic at the University of Lincoln and a Senior Ambassador for her programme. Speaking to celebrate International Women’s Day at the university, she said:
“International women’s day to me is about recognising all women and sparking discussion about our passions and achievements. Reflecting on my time at university I could never have imagined the scope of things I have achieved and been involved in! Being asked to be a part of this project for international women’s day is the icing on the cake. I hope by sharing my experience I can demonstrate to other women and young girls how exiting life is and to take every opportunity, positive or negative, in your stride.
“I find great fulfilment in sharing my knowledge and understanding with peers and prospectus students, being a student ambassador not only allows me to do this but also supports future career aspirations of advancing into education.
“I have recently been promoted into this role after staring as a course ambassador in my first year, alongside this I work a part time job and recently embarked on an elective placement to Ghana, where I worked in a rural community hospital and into the villages with a public health team. Skills and qualities I learnt within my role greatly contributed to my ability within these positions. “
International Women’s Day is all about creating a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge gender equality.
