Every year, the Students’ Union hosts its main Elections period whereby key representative roles are elected into post for the following academic year.
This year the Elections process has been changed, with the five Student Leader roles voted into post followed by the 38 Volunteer Officer positions. Both periods will be taking place throughout March, with all students able to exercise their voice and vote for who will represent them!
Student Leaders are full-time, paid roles, based across five remits:
- Vice President Activities
- Vice President Campaigns and Environment
- Vice President Education
- Vice President International
- Vice President Wellbeing and Community

Volunteer Officers fulfil their roles alongside their studies and support the Student Leader team in the representation of students, as well as the delivery of events and campaigns. Roles that fall within the ‘Volunteer Officer’ umbrella include:
- Democracy and Governance – Union Chair and Deputy Union Chair
- Activities Officers – Sports, Societies and Academic Societies Officers
- Campaigns Network Officers – LGBT+ Officer, Racial Diversity Officer, Women’s Officer, Disabilities Officer and Environmental Officer
- Academic Representatives – College Officers (x4) and School Reps (x22)
- International Students’ Association (ISA) Officer
- Wellbeing Network Officer – Community Officer

Dates for both Elections periods can be seen below:
Student Leader Elections
- Nominations – 28th February at 9am – 11th March at 5pm
- Candidate Briefing 11th March at 5.30pm
- Voting – 14th March at 9am – 18th March at 2pm
- Results – 18th March at 7pm
Please note that all Student Leader candidates are required to attend the Candidate Briefing, Charity and Board of Trustees workshop and Question Time sessions in order to be eligible to run for post.
Volunteer Officers
- Nominations – 21st March at 9am – 25th March at 5pm
- Candidate Briefing 25th March at 5.30pm
- Voting – 28th March at 9am – 1st April at 2pm
- Results – 1st April at 7pm
Students can nominate themselves and vote for positions via lincolnsu.com/elections with all votes cast using the Single Transferrable Voting (STV) method. All Elections are facilitated as per By-Law 7, which can be found here: here
All Student Leader candidates must attend the compulsory Question Time event on 15th March at 7pm in line with By-Law 7.11.1. Question Time will be held in Towers and will allow all candidates a fair opportunity to answer questions and promote their aims. Student members will also have the opportunity to submit questions in advance by contacting elections@lincolnsu.com
