A national property award could be in sight for a talented Architecture student at the University of Lincoln as she features in the shortlist for the 2017 Women in Property Student Awards.
Demi McCoid, who is about to embark on her final year at the University, was selected from 12 regional finalists to represent Yorkshire and the North East in the national competition taking place next week, on Wednesday 20th September.
Organised by the Association of Women in Property (WiP), the awards aim to recognise excellence in the property industry, encouraging up-and-coming talent and nurturing the role models of tomorrow.
By linking with universities, the awards raise awareness among students of the career options available to them. Many students go on to secure work placements as a direct result of competing in the awards, which often translate into permanent positions upon graduation.
During the regional heats, Demi was put through her paces, undergoing an interview with high-profile regional judges drawn from the property industry and higher education, before presenting her own proposal for a city bakery which allows customers to observe and engage in the process of bread-making.
Demi was nominated for the award by the Bachelor of Architecture studio team at the University of Lincoln. Barbara Griffin, Programme Leader and Senior Lecturer in the Lincoln School of Architecture and the Built Environment, said: “We are incredibly proud of Demi. She is a very diligent and passionate student who is fully dedicated to the study and practice of architecture. Her passion and energy is clear in her research and design work and in her ambition to make a difference as a woman in the industry.”
Speaking after securing her place at the 2017 national final, Demi said: “This process has given me confidence to believe in my own potential and I am beyond excited for the future. The people I’ve met so far have shared with me their positive and inspirational outlook on what it means to be a woman in property and I am grateful to be a part of this process and do what I can to be a future role model for women aspiring to a career in property.”
Demi will be joined by Sheffield Hallam University student, Lauren-Mae Crofts, at the national “Best of Best” Black Tie Awards Dinner in London.
